On 15 May 1895, four pharmacists and founding members signed a document for articles of association. The company Tampereen Rohdoskauppayhtiö is born.
This year, we celebrate Tamro’s 125th anniversary.
The company’s history is long and eventful. From its beginnings as a small pharmacy, the company has expanded into the wholesale of medicines and, through a subsidiary, even to pharmaceutical manufacturing. Over the years, the company has grown both organically and through numerous acquisitions and mergers. During a phase of growth and internationalisation, Tamro became a publicly traded company and multinational, ultimately joining the family-owned PHOENIX Group.
Tamro has always proven itself to be an adaptable and forward-looking company. Today, in May 2020, we are Finland’s leading pharmaceutical wholesaler with a market share of nearly 60%. In addition, we are well on our way in executing our strategy to become a healthcare provider that offers services throughout the healthcare value chain.
History and present come together as we look to the future. It is essential to recognise that nothing new can be built without previously laid foundations. Tamro’s success is based on all the distinguished work by so many of the company’s employees over the course of 125 years of history. Everyone's contribution has been and continues to be important.
In recent years, in line with its new strategy, Tamro has progressed towards a vision in which we are a wide-ranging service provider in all areas of the healthcare value chain. This value chain of healthcare begins with research activities with the aim of discovering new, improved and more effective treatments and ways to prevent diseases. The end goal of the value chain is the health and wellbeing of ordinary Finnish patients.
We are also building our range of services with determination through our subsidiaries: Services by Medaffcon support both pharmaceutical companies as well as, increasingly, the public sector, while Pharmac Finland has established itself as a leader in dose dispensing in Finland, while the innovative Olo pharmacy chain serves customers as a growing provider of local health services.
On top of these, Tamro’s own service portfolio is growing steadily, and we are investing heavily in new services. We build over previous innovations to create new value and implement completely new services in close cooperation with our customers. Through our range of Smila care services, we are also making progress in developing healthcare solutions for home care and nursing homes.
Ultimately, people make the difference. This means every one of us at Tamro and our strong commitment to our work. Our work matters: We help bring about health, wellbeing and longer lives.
We look to the future with confidence. We will continue our work for the health and wellbeing of everyone in Finland with determination.
Congratulations to Tamro on 125 years!
