In the current uncertain global situation, companies face increasing and more likely threats. Cybersecurity and physical security threats, geopolitical situations, pandemics, and natural phenomena are causing concern and discussion. The importance of a well-planned, maintained, and practiced continuity management system is emphasized in preparing for various situations and operating in emergencies. Investing in the development of an effective continuity management system is worthwhile for companies of all sizes, regardless of the industry.
The goal of continuity planning is to improve the company's resilience, ensuring that it can adapt to changing situations, continue its critical operations, and recover quickly. In the pharmaceutical industry, continuity management is particularly important as it directly relates to patient safety: the aim is to ensure that patients receive the necessary medicines and health products under all circumstances.
Continuity Management is a Shared Responsibility
Building a continuity management system requires identifying and assessing the risks and threats relevant to the company and their impacts on critical functions. It is important to proportion preventive and mitigating measures correctly in relation to the severity and likelihood of risks. Additionally, it is necessary to prepare for situations where a risk or threat materializes. Successful crisis management requires an effective crisis management team, timely communication, and pre-planned and practiced action models.
At Tamro, we have systematically developed our continuity management system for several years. We have broadly identified risks affecting our operations and assessed their impacts on critical processes. We have invested in risk prevention, particularly in terms of facility conditions, the operation of critical equipment and systems, physical security, and information security. Additionally, we have developed several action models for disruptions, such as those related to cold storage, system failures, transportation disruptions, and staff availability.
The emergency plan and personal safety instructions are an integral part of our continuity plans. Regular training is a key way to maintain readiness and skills in emergency situations. Training not only develops plans further but also ensures their up-to-dateness. At Tamro, we practice continuity management action plans annually. For example, in 2023, we organized five different exercises that addressed crisis management, rescue safety, and power outages.
Continuity management is a shared responsibility, and its development requires everyone's contribution and close cooperation. Collaboration is needed both in preparation and during a crisis, including with other industry players and authorities.
